                                                      About us

DAKSHA 2019 is a road safety and plant a tree initiative started by six 3rd year Mechanical Engineering students of Amrita School of Engineering Kollam, Kerala intended to spread awareness about road safety(Acts and Rules in MV act 1988) and the importance of nature.

THE PROBLEM

17
people die every hour on Indian Roads
4.07
LAKH CRORES costs to India due to road crashes annually
46
children die every day on Indian roads
50%
of road crash deaths could have been avoided with rapid assisstance
50
LAKH+
were seriously injured or disabled in the past decade

10
Lakh+
people were killed in road accidents over the past decade

As a result of the survey conducted by the DAKSHA team we came to know that the major problems in our locality are road accidents, increasing heat and water scarcity.
We found that the lack of trees is the the major reason for increasing atmospheric temperature and water scarcity. And the major reasons for the increase in road accidents are ;
1 Overspeeding
2 Drunken driving
3 Poor road conditions
4 Non-adherence to basic traffic guidelines and rules

Kerala stands 5th in the number of road accidents in India. There’s one death every 4 minutes due to a road accident in India, and Kerala’s average could be anywhere near ‘one every 30 minutes’. Statistics reveal that road accidents are steadily rising in Kerala.
